Thank you for your interest in Sarah Bell's Watercolour Workshops. There's no better place to learn new watercolour skills or brush up on some rusty ones!
An inspiring tutor...
Sarah Bell is a practising artist and illustrator, and a qualified art tutor with many years experience. Her fresh, contemporary watercolours can be found in private collections in Europe and the US, and her painting and workshops have been featured on ITV's
Arts and Crafts, and
Country Lives series. The TV producer enjoyed filming so much that she booked for a workshop herself! A bright and enthusiastic tutor, Sarah believes that with the right tuition anyone can be taught to paint and draw.
An inspiring location...
Workshops take place in the Studio set within the courtyard of Sampsons Farm Hotel and Restaurant, a charming medieval thatched former farmhouse in the tiny hamlet of Preston, near Newton Abbot. Chickens and ducks scratch around in the paddock, and the River Teign winds lazily through the meadows just down the lane. A haven of tranquillity, yet less than fifteen minutes drive from both Exeter and Torquay.
What does a workshop entail?
All one day courses begin at 10am and finish at 5pm. Coffee is served in the studio at 11, and a light two course lunch is taken in the restaurant across the courtyard. Tea is served mid afternoon.
Don't forget, all materials are included, so you don't have the headache of sourcing lots of things beforehand!
Groups are a maximum of eight in order for Sarah to give lots of individual attention to students, and there is an emphasis on frequent demonstrations, methodical, step-by-step tuition and encouragement. Printed notes on all the techniques covered are given to all students to take home, too. The atmosphere is relaxed, cheerful and supportive, so nervous beginners needn't worry at all!
What does it cost?
A one day workshop is great value at only £60, which includes a two course lunch in the restaurant, all materials, and tea and coffee.
Why not make a weekend of it?
Many of our painters make the wise decision to make a mini break designed around the workshops. Sampsons Farm Hotel is a beautiful, sleepy country hotel with fifteen peaceful rooms and an AA Rosette award winning restaurant. For painting friends we offer twin rooms at competitive prices, and for non painting partners we can arrange golf, riding, sea fishing trips at the coast (only fifteen minutes drive), and historic Exeter is only twenty minutes away. All the information you need is on our website,
www.sampsonsfarm.com, or call us on 01626 354 913.
Therapy for mums...
As the mother of a young child herself, Sarah knows that Life gets in the way of Art sometimes! Some of the best times for her have been observing the therapeutic effects of watercolour on stressed out mums: a day completely out of time, lots of laughter, dabbling around with paint, and a delicious lunch you don't have to cook yourself...
