Birds, Butterflies and Beetles Workshop
Date: Sat 25th/Sun 26th April
Oh, Glorious colours… and unbelievable silhouettes
This workshop is such good fun! You’ll be amazed by what you’ll have produced by the end of this wonderful weekend workshop. Surprisingly simple even if you haven’t painted before, you’ll soon understand how to apply vibrant juicy watercolour to the simple silhouette shapes of birds, butterflies and beetles to create your own stunning images. Also perfect for bringing along children or grandchildren who love making art.*
When you come to my workshop you’ll learn so many things:
Learn how to simplify the shapes of birds, butterflies, etc and then modify them to quickly create realistic drawings
Secret tips on using unusual tools to create special effects
How to make things look 3D by using light and shade
What special techniques to use to make birds look feathery or downy; make butterflies look iridescent, create the finest hairs or antennae, and make beetles look super shiny,
How to choose the best watercolour materials to make your painting easier
Understand and use the two basic foundations of watercolour technique: “Wet in Wet” and “Wet on Dry” method
How to allow your watercolour paint to flow: make it loose and juicy!
I’ll be giving lots of demonstrations and one-to-one help as always, to accelerate your learning. You’ll be using my photographic reference, specially chosen to make the best use of your time, but you’re also welcome to bring along your own images to work from.
What will I do in the workshop?
Day One
You’ll learn how to create surprisingly easy drawings of our butterflies, birds and beetles by simplifying your subject matter in the morning session. In the afternoon I’ll show you, step by step, how to mix colours and use wet in wet technique, and by the end of the day you’ll be confidently adding juicy watercolour to your drawings.
Day Two
In the morning session you’ll enjoy experimenting with my secret techniques for creating special effects and really bringing your paintings to life. During the afternoon session you can work independently from my photo’s, or you can choose to follow more of my step-by-step demonstrations if you feel you’d appreciate continued guidance.
“Sarah is a great teacher - patient and clear and she makes watercolour painting seem so simple. It’s so relaxing learning with her.”
