Where to stay

Moretonhampstead, dartmoor national park, devon

The new home for workshops in Devon is the Greenhill Arts Centre Moretonhampstead: a charming little moorland town in the Dartmoor National Park. There has been a settlement here for more than 1000 years, so the area is steeped in history.

Once here, the venue is within minutes walking distance of the hotel and guesthouses in town. There are nice places to eat and drink, and a lovely village-y atmosphere. The venue is right next door to the beautiful ancient church, and beyond that, stunning views of the lush and leafy Wray Valley nestled in the moors, so great opportunities for working outdoors, too.

Moretonhampstead is easiest to get to by car: 20 mins from Exeter via A30, or by train to Newton Abbot then taxi or bus. For those flying in Exeter Airport is just a 40 min drive away.

Within 20 mins drive you'll find a castle on a crag; rural views which have remained the same for centuries, the famous Rocky Tors, wild Dartmoor Ponies, and space and quiet in nature...

Lots of options from boutique luxury at Bovey Castle, through B&B’s in the town or on a local farm; self-catering cottages or even a walker’s hostel, as you can see on the Visit Moretonhampstead website.

The White Hart Hotel is a lovely place to stay; I spent my birthday there a few months ago. It's an 18th C coaching Inn, two mins walk from the workshop venue, good food, and log fires and big sofas for the winter months!

I negotiated a 10% discount on room rates for my students. If you'd like to book at the White Hart then email the manager direct on her personal email:
lauriepreece@sky.com and tell her you're coming to my workshop. (If you book via the web there is no discount.)
